Symptoms :

You can't select Guild config
You can't reroll a character
If you don't have either of these symptoms theres no need
to install this patch

Affects :

Windows 95 only (i think, possibly win98)
with Internet explorer 4 or less.

How to fix it :

Go to this URL

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/release.asp?ReleaseID=11916

Click on the file 50comupd.exe and save it to your local hard disk.
(its 510k so its not that big)

Close all your apps.

Run 50comupd.exe and follow the instructions.

Reboot

Rerun meridian and everything should be ok now


Alternatively install Internet Explorer 5 but thats not neeeded just the above file
