At the most recent Game Developer's Conference in August, 2013, the original lead designer of "Meridian 59", Damion Schubert (better known as "Zjiria" to M59 players from the 3DO era), gave an hour-long presentation about the history of "Meridian 59" - who made it, why, how it came to be and what the heck happened.

A recording of his presentation is now available in the GDC Vault portion of Gamamsutra.com.

In the video, Mr. Schubert energetically goes over the initial creation of M59 to a packed audience of game industry types, and humorously references game events that occurred during its original run time. His presentation shows love for the game and what it did - at one point he refers to "missing" the old game, and says that he logged in just before the conference to see people complaining about PK's - conversations that happened since 1996.

If you are a current player of the game, curious about it, or have been with it for some time, you owe it to yourself to learn a little more about where M59 came from and hear what the Lead Designer has to say. Go check it out!
