Meridian 59:Requiem

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Boys and Girls,

I hold on my desk a list of all of the people who have emailed us since we first revealed the news of Meridian 59's recovery. All suggestions either have been or will be helpful, and all criticism has also been helpful. This weekend we got a letter from one of our skeptics. I will not mention a name nor email address, but I will show you a little about what this person wrote:

You guys are just talking about remodeling stuff. No one will come back to a game that cost 15 a month and is 20 times smaller than EQ (EverQuest) and 50 times smaller than AC(Asheron's Call). ***** Nice try tho, maybe remodeling M59 will keep 1 or 2 ppl playing longer, but I dont think the engine can even handle anymore graphics.

I have gotten a few emails similar, pertaining to questions such as these, and I've written the same answers to all. I will now inform everyone of the entirety of our plan for March of 2000. After this, I intend to work on this project and leave most email replies to other members of the Asylum One team.

The Requiem project is as it is titled. An ode to the dead. A hymn or grand symphony in memory of the dead. Meridian 59 died after the release of EverQuest. Some say it died before that. Competition has forced Meridian off the shelves, and into the pile of 50 cent games next to the old Nintendo cartridges.

We don't intend to build cute little bitmap images for the existing DUMB (Doom-like) engine, but instead rebuild Meridian from the ground up. No, it wont take three months to do this, but instead it may take until the year 2001 to complete. We aren't sure on the time frame right now.
We don't plan on adding some cool "neato" sounds and calling it an update. We don't intend to give Paddock a bigger beer belly and a gold tooth and pretend like we worked our asses off.

We plan on working our asses off. Period. We plan on Meridian being a whole new game. A whole new world, but still one you remember. One that old players can still recognize, but can still drool over. One that new players will want to play, but will feel like there's not enough time in a day to explore the new environment.

Yes, Virginia, we're going to stomp EQ, AC, UO, and all of those other online RPGs down to the bottom shelves where they'll collect dust for the next 20 years.

For those of you who are asking for screen shots, sounds, music, or anything you can get your hands on, regarding the M59R project, please, be patient. We will have a downloadable video available in March. It's only two months away--play your games to kill the time. We promise that you wont be disappointed.
