My grand gesture - a tribute to Meridian 59
6/30/2000 8:30:48 AM - Gilroy

Greetings Fellow Meridianites, both young and old.

Remembering times of old
I would like to take a few moments to reminisce. Given the current news regarding the “curtain” falling on our beloved Meridian 59 I feel it appropriate to say a few good things about what I’m walking away from this experience with. I started playing this game shortly after it went commercial and I, as I’m sure many of you will share, have many great memories during my stay. I’ve made friendships that will last a lifetime, I’ve commanded a guild of great warriors that would die for me if only I had asked, I have attended wonderful weddings to honor commitments made by others, I have even lost a wonderful friend due to a real-life tragedy.

Passionate game
It’s seems amazing to me that a “computer game” can have such a deep and passionate impact on our lives. In the early days, my wife actually threatened divorce if I didn’t stop playing so damn much. She just did not understand how addicting Meridian was (and is). If it hadn’t been for the fact that I was a new father I would’ve just shrugged her off and played anyway. But, my kids come first. At least I did hold on to some sanity!

It was an honor
I, for one, feel so incredibly honored to have been a small part of the history that was written as this great adventure unfolded. There will be newer and greater games created but Meridian 59, my friends, will always be the pioneer. Thank you, everyone, who has helped me along the way. Remember the grandeur!!!

My grand gesture
Ok, enough with the rambling. Let’s get on with the real purpose of this post. I want to do something special now that our game is about to end. I will be creating another message board on September 1, 2000. (Yes, that’s the day after the end!) This message board will be a place for everyone who has ever experienced the true beauty of Meridian to share their most memorable moments. We want to hear about your grandest battles, the heart touching weddings, the friendships that were developed, etc. Start writing your stories now. You have plenty of time to write an epic if you wish.

Long Live Meridian
As a tribute to our experiences and to respect the memories of Meridian 59, Gilroy’s Meridian 59 Reference will remain LONG after the servers are shut down.

Respectfully,
Gilroy
