Where has Gilroy been?
4/8/2000 10:33:55 AM - Gilroy

My sincere apologies for not working on this site much lately. It’s not that I don’t care! It’s a simple matter of lack of time.

For those who wish to know, read on… otherwise… just know that I’m still around!

If you have ever visited my base domain, you know that I’m a Data Processing Consultant based in Atlanta, Georgia. My main niche, so to speak, is using the IBM mid-range AS/400 platform to build business applications for clients with languages such as RPG and COBOL. Yeah, yeah… I know… that’s old stuff. I’ve been doing it for twelve years though and it is my “bread and butter”. As you can guess, I’m not as young as most visitors here.

I’ve been retooling my techno-knowledge over the last four years in an attempt to leverage myself towards more mainstream contracts (i.e., ASP Web Development). My current client, of five years, has just outsourced their I.T. department to a consulting group and activated the 30-day termination clause of my contract (on March 6th). Yep, you guessed it… my last day was this past Wednesday (April 5th).

This past month has been hectic. I’ve spent the past four weeks interviewing, sometimes up to three per day. It’s been stressful, but well worth it. Effective this Monday, April 10th, I start a new job as ASP Web Developer with a small Internet company that will be going public soon. It’s pretty exciting, to say the least. No more AS/400 COBOL!

I just wanted to let everyone know that I haven’t abandoned Meridian. I’m just very busy getting myself ready for this new challenge. It’s always nerve-racking starting a new job but I do well when I’m challenged.

Sorry to ramble on like that. I’ll close it out now.

Keep the faith!
Gilroy
