Guild War: How do you war another guild? What is a "Halo War"?

Guild War in Meridian 59....how does it work? What's a Halo War?

The "Halo" that players refer to is the color circle, or halo, that appears around the blue player/character dot on the mini-map on the right of the screen. When you are at war, the blue dot has a RED halo around it...

How do I select guilds I want to be murderous towards?

To choose the guilds you would like to be enemies against, you must first be a high-ranking member of mature guild with at least 3 members.

High-Ranking means the Guildmaster (GM) and the two 2nd-to-highest rank members - they can choose other guilds on the server and modify their "Alliance" status on the "Guilds" menu.

Other members of the guild can VIEW this Alliance status through the in-game Guild status menu (type "Guild" or go to the Guild option through the drop-down menu), but they can't make changes to it.

The high-rank of the guild can highlight a guild, then place the selected guild in a list of enemies. Their official status will be pending.

When a guild is first declared as enemies, a BOLD, PURPLE text message appears onscreen to all the members of BOTH guilds. The Message will be slightly different based on who is reading it. It will be something like this:

"The Zaphod Worshippers have declared themselves enemies to your guild, the Buffalo Soldiers!"

Note: To declare enemies and begin a war, BOTH guilds must have 50,000 shillings in their rent balance with Frular, the Guildmaster NPC in Barloque. This money is a deposit that goes toward whatever guild survives the war and is declared the winner.

Now, the guild that received this message has the opportunity to declare status back to that guild, confirming the change, or they can simply do nothing.

If you are in the guild that was declared towards first, you can scroll through the list of "Neutral guilds" and see some text when highlighting a certain guild that "This guild is enemies with your guild". It can stay in this state indefinitely with no cost or effect. This merely shows what guilds are pending a response from your guild.

What happens when one guild updates and confirms ENEMY status to the other guild?

WAR!!!

When two guilds become enemies, both guilds will receive a message that tells them they are now at war!

- War Impact: Members of the enemy guild will have a RED halo around their blue player dot on the mini-map - the infamous halo aspect of the "Halo War" term.

- War Impact: Warring guilds will not turn orange/red, becoming outlawed or murderous by attacking or killing enemy guild members. They can cast any and all offensive/defensive spells on one another.

- War Impact: Warring guilds do not have to worry about casting negative area-affect spells (ex: earthquake) or "wall" spells (ex: firewall, spore burst)) and harming any members of their own guild. However, red/orange "colored" players in their home guild can still be harmed by these spells!

- War Impact: When an enemy guild member is killed, the death scroll (the pink, global text message that appears onscreen to all players online) will be unique.

Ex:###Mayhem of the Unlicensed Dentists has been slaughtered by Zax'cha of the Creepy Pale Kids in guild combat.

All other aspects of the death are normal - the player loses everything they are carrying and receives a hit point/% penalty.

- War Impact: HIGHER RENT DUES! In order to pay for damages/clean-up services, the rent dues/pay-per-day tick for BOTH guilds will be slightly higher.

How does a war end and what happens then?

A war can end in two ways (with varying background factors):

- One guild disbands either through not paying their rent dues or by the GM manually disbanding them.

The other guild will be awarded with 50,000 shillings that is automatically deposited towards their rent, and a message stating that their "Hated Enemy, the , has disbanded!".

- One guild sues for peace and undeclared the other guild as enemies.

As there is no such thing as a mutual declaration of peace...the guild who undeclared first will lose 50,000 shillings. There will also be an unfriendly bold, purple text message to both involved guilds about the guild that chose to end the war.
