Marion Crypt <40-75 HP>: How do I unlock Level 2? How do I fight Living Statues?

In the town of Marion, in the South West corner is the Marion Crypt. The second level of the Marion Crypt is a relatively safe and secluded area to build between 40-75 HP.

The Crypt itself is a multi-level dungeon filled with creature types of ascending difficulty, from Spectral Mummies, Skeletons, Battered Skeletons, Living Statues, finally leading up to one of the most dangerous and newer in the game, the Thrashers.

The crazy/wise man NPC, Ran'er Hoth, will be babbling nearby the entrance to the Marion Crypt, which is behind his hut. Walk to the left-most wall here, and go through the gap in the fence. You can also walk to the right and through another gap hidden against another fence to the North.

Once inside, follow the crypt around from the north wall, making a jump near the southeast corner. This first room of the Marion Crypt mirrors the one from the Raza Mausoleum except for a few slight differences.

At the end of the crypt maze, you'll find a door with a lever on either side of it. It's easy to open the door with two people, as the two levers must be used simultaneously (1 second of lee way). You can open the door by yourself but it will require patience - walking backwards, strafing, and pressing the U - "USE" key -.

Once the door is opened, you will come face to face with the first Living Statue and some Spectral Mummies.

The gate that blocked Marion Crypt Level 2 will open when the Living Statue is killed. If the statue doesn't awaken, you will need to farm aggro for it, using the techniques detailed below.

You will need to use the same technique to wake and destroy all of the other Living Statues in the Marion Crypt Level 2.

********Game Manipulation Notice**********

Farming aggro for the statues: Two people are required for, but that shouldn't be a problem since you needed two to open the door. First, kill anything standing near the statue. Now, leave one person standing right in front of the statue. The second person should leave the small room and start looking for the moving Spectral Mummies (there should be two).

If you kill the Spectral Mummy that's currently aggroing the character camping the statue, then the game will see that the camping character has nothing aggroing it and will choose a new mob to aggro that character. The aggro algorithm is at least partially weighted for location. Since the Statue is so close, it will most likely be the mob that locks on.

If you're alone, you can attempt to activate the statue by standing right in front of it and quickly logging off and on. Sometimes, it also works by being still for a few minutes directly in front of the statue, then moving suddenly.

***End/Game Manipulation Notice***

It's important that the Living Statue not be killed until everyone in your party that is going forward to Level 2 and beyond is back in the small room, as the door to the small room will close when the statue dies.

You are now in Marion Crypt Level 2.

Building Notes:

In Marion Crypt Level 2, you will be offered some of the best building you get between 40 and 75HP. Just be sure to bring an extra suit of armor.

The area is filled with skeletons, which drop Blue Dragon Scales. Battered Skeletons will also drop Knight Shields to use and (in my experience) you will get just enough Inkies as well to stay at a high vigor.

The area is rather large, and also has 20-30 Living Statues waiting to be awakened.

When killing the Living Statues, pay attention to their death throes - if they cry out "Rosebud!" , that means they just dropped a Rose, which can then be placed under the Mimosa Tree, also in Marion, for a temporary +5 Mysticism Boon!
