I've read somewhere that drop rates were increased on 102 vs 101.. and few other things that would speed up character building (I don't remember what exactly). If that's the case, would it be unfair for those who built on 101 to get merged with 102?

Of course, it would be unfair to for those who built on 102 to loose everything as well..

EDIT: Ok, I found it back

On 102

advancement increased by 200% (that's 3x normal imp rate)
item drops increased by 100%
death penalties lowered to 50% of "normal"
spawn rates increased by 10%

does anyone know *Exactly* what it takes to move a character between the servers...
I guess if someone wrote an app to collect all the details about a char on the server, it could be loaded into the new server?
Surely there isnt that many accounts on 102 to move ... cant someone pay someone to manually move em?

It just requires work to fill in all the blanks.

The Germans already have an app that will do the work for them. I don't know why they never used it, most likely because they didn't want a merge and felt it was a bad move?

I remember PC saying he would do it for like 100 bucks or something or maybe it was 1k. I don't remember now.

Even if they created accounts, and rebuilt characters manually with the admin window it wouldn't take that long. It takes like 5 seconds to make a god built with just the admin window. Of course the way I did all my characters had 99s. It probably would take a little longer due to different character specs. Plus you need a way to verify every characters statistics and percentages. Again you can use the admin window (pretty sure).

I don't really know what stopped NDS from doing it.

Person forgot they never had that thing and argues with you

You tell them you are sorry and reiterate the character record didn't have it.

Person continues to argue, you send them a copy of the export

Person finally reneges and promises "never to do business with you again."

...

Bad Case:

"Hey Youse forgot my Blind Hold Purple Mace"

Respond without checking that such item was not on the character record

"Oh ya well you forgot "

You are forced to validate to prove the idiot wrong

Argue some more, waste some more time

Player demands his money back for the server transfer wants character returned to original server

He already deleted the character via suicide, you offer refund but won't offer to recreate the character

Player whines some more demands something on the original server

Player starts posting on gilroys that the gods stole his stuff and suicided his character

You renege and rebuild the character by hand on the original server from the backup

Player demands 500,000 gold for the inconvenience, you renege hoping he gets out of your hair

The player thanks you and replies, "Hey Youse forgot my Blind Hold Purple Mace"...

I'd pay twenty bucks a char to migrate em, just stats, %'s and HP. (Name can't go, Oriumpor is already on 101! )

And that gets rid of any question, since that's easy enough to identify. If the Z's can get a good import/export system setup you can even use it to wipe out old chars with bugs (with the player's consent after they've cleared out their inventory etc.) and recreate them on the latest build without major headaches (not to mention automated server transfers are a hop skip and a jump away!)

I am pretty sure this is easier said than done. If they had to recreate a character to do this well then I can understand what a pain it would be.

Yeah that's basically the crux of it Mike. The "Export" was basically a print of the character specific variables, then a script recreated the character and assigned the variables as they had been. Really, the best way to do it (for the current backend) would be to use exports and create a data loader. Unfortunately there's not a huge demand for it, the 102 players are encouraged to play, but really 101 is the place to be. If there were a thriving population with multiple servers and... certain people could only afford enough accounts to a be a nuissance on a single server, then perhaps there would be a much larger demand... but really there's no need. Time is the only element currently, so you could eventually rebuild whatever you had on 102...
