So i have Vista as my operating system 64bit so i can't get to the yeti or shally temple cause living trees make me crash and the city of barloque makes me crash so i can only bank items on the island. I was told to post this problem on the forums so here it is. Hopefully this can be fixed so i can get 2 easy nodes and shally magic and bank in barloque

Living Trees makes you crash and other creatures don't? wth

I remember I had a problems with monsters when I started playing the game many years ago. I had a 14.4k modem so my friend gave me the client on 3.5 floppies.. but one of them was corrupted and I contained resources files (including some creatures). So I simply took other creatures sprites (which are separate files) and copied them as missing files. Then centipede became another random monster.

I don't know if you can still do that now, but maybe you can just change the Living Tree sprite into another creature. Of course.. you should try dealing with compatibility mode first.

I find it hard to believe that actually worked. Theres no way the server software could have been so vulnerable to be able to allow the client to funcition like that. to say nothing of the fact what you are describing is replacing the graphic, not the actual monster.

It would definately not work with the new client.

and 3.5 floppies?! thats alot of floppies....

We did that a lot in the old days, replacing the bgf of one monster, so if you take frogman.bgf and rename it centip.bgf all centipedes will look like frogmen. It will still be a centipede but it will have a different graphic.

BTW still works just tried it.

There are a lot of interesting graphics in there if you experiment, I remember finding the old princess graphic in there and other old npc's.

That's just about replacing the graphics, not replacing the monster itself with his stats. You see another monster, but it's still a living tree. It doesn't have anything to do with the server.

I see that it's still working :-) I remember about switching several monsters because I wanted to see how powerful monster looked like.

I think it was like 35 mb, zipped, so it was like 20 floppies.

Want to read something even funnier about it?... I was missing important TOS files, so the client was just crashing with I was trying to enter TOS. I was a new player back then and didn't know how TOS looked like. Instead of just crashing, when I was entering TOS, the game would throw me in my hometown (that was CN at that time). My friend was trying to tell me on phone how to reach TOS, I was very confused. The week after I was able to get the full client and I discovered TOS :-)

I think that on those free trial servers. You know.. those servers where you could only have a 5-day account and then you had to reroll. That was just because 3do realized that there was a huge community of players on that server, not paying for the game and rerolling each 5 days. That's when they decided to create Raza.

Ah. well it still sounds like a bit odd that it can be done.

Should make a joke version of the client....replace every monster graphic with a yeti

Did you try just tree.bgf?

If you do a search on file names in resources foders, there's like 15 to 20 files having "tree" in it's name. It must be one of them. Problem here is that it also includes all kind of tree textures.

Or else, it could be something else that makes you crash.

That's good news.

About Barloque, does it crash either you enter by front door and by the sewers?

actually making vista xp compatible made barloque work just not living trees so now that i changed trees into yetis the whole game works for me now which makes me happy. Im like the fat kid who found out that Willy Wonka was my father, then he died and I was given ownership of his chocolate factory

Interesting,

I was just running around the zones near meridian and I crashed... after screwing around with pretty much every setting, i changed the files you listed, and everything worked... maybe theres something wrong with living trees and 64bit?

Anyone else have an issue?

I have several computers I play Meridian on. Even though all use Windows XP, only some of them crash in barloque. When I am on one that crashes in barl i simply walk backwards and/or look down in the trouble spots and I dont crash. Hope this helps.

Wait what? Vista? I thought this problem was related to windows 7.....? I'm using vista on this comp and I haven't crashed anywhere.

I think this problem has to do with the large textures on these guys. The code handling caches fails if you have > 2GB of memory (I think it's independent of operating system). I've fixed this in the upcoming client.
